Not being totally strung out all the time was a major hurdle for Aerosmith’s song-crafting during the 1990s. If this is a debate scenario, you swiftly move beyond the Daffy Duck noises and burp intros of Grip and to the badass 70s drug anthems or anything from Rocks. If you do like Aerosmith, you never admit you like Get A Grip. What I mean is: if you don’t like Aerosmith, you only know Get A Grip (the one with all the Alicia Silverstone videos). The funny thing about this album for me is that it’s Aerosmith’s most successful and most embarrassing record. Spotify is good, but it’ll never give you a CD with five man nipples printed on the front. Sarah Grant: Mike, that’s the best and also the only anecdote I’ve ever heard about Get A Grip. Stupid, sure, but I’ve always been a sucker for pointless merchandise and stuffed animals I blame Disney. I don’t think it had extra tracks or anything special (maybe a poster?), but its cover came brandished with a unique cow imprint that felt ultra real. To date, I still have this great debate in my head as to whether or not I should have asked my pops for an advance on my allowance to buy the super deluxe furry version. In other words, I actually walked into a store - the now-defunct Incredible Universe, which at the time was an apropos name - and went straight to the As in Pop/Rock to snatch it up. Michael Roffman: True story: This was the first album I ever bought with my own money. So, grab a Fresca, blast the album below, then shut up and dance. The two not only share wistful memories, but also try to dig deep and explain why it went on to become the Boston veterans’ best-selling studio album worldwide.

Another cd knocked out and a quick sketch… Not too shabby for a Monday. In this week’s edition of Dusting ‘Em Off, Editor-in-Chief Michael Roffman and Associate Editor Sarah Grant look back on 20 years of listening to Aerosmith’s Get a Grip.

Thinking next round I will find my pastels or my graphite pencils and not mess with any filters. There’s just something about sketching in graphite that is pleasing to my eye even if it still needs a lot of work. I sketched this portrait in pen then ran a filter to convert it to pencil. I managed to squeeze out a quick 5 minute sketch of my daughter after tucking the boys into bed… The proportions are off and I can’t say it’s my best work but it’s a step in the right direction which is… Art every day, good or bad, at least it’s creativity. But I did make cupcakes so score for me:) ‘Crazy’ has a vibe that makes you want to dance around while doing whatever your heart desires… So does ‘Cryin’… I can’t remember which song had a music video with a young Alicia Silverstone dancing around but I could swear it was one of these two songs. I can remember shooting pool while being smothered by cigarello smoke in my late teens/early twenties hearing these songs. I like this album although it’s been ages since I’ve listened to anything Aerosmith. And by rolling I mean slight speeding to get there on time.

This fast paced song was good music to get things rolling. I listened to this second cd to leave my bookcase amidst a flurry of little voices floating from the back seats of my mommy van yelling that we were going to be late… Lol we made it to the school just as ‘Eat The Rich’ started playing. Aerosmith is perfect for a frantic dash out the door while hustling all the kids into their jackets. First day of May madness where we are counting down the days til school is out. This is a fitting cd for the craziness of this Monday morning.
